News Submission Form

Use this form to submit articles for the News Section, for concert announcements, and other requested postings. Before submitting this form, please refer to the instructions below. If you would like to submit photographs or a large amount of text (more than 300 words), please send an email to the Webmaster to arrange an alternate means of making the submission.

All submitted material is subject to editing and verification by The Brass Crest. We reserve the right to not post a requested item (although this right is almost never invoked). You should verify the information as it is presented on our site, and may request that the posting be removed at any time. By submitting items to us, you agree to grant us a non-exclusive, limited license to edit and publish your submission (this means that you retain the copyright for the material you submit, and are free to use the same item in other places).

Instructions for Submitting Items

The purpose of the News Section of The Brass Crest is to inform our visitors of news and events happening in and around the world of Salvation Army music. Concert Announcements, posted on the front page of the site, are all submitted by visitors. News Items, posted in the News Section, come from two primary sources: published reports and press releases (both electronic and printed) and submissions from visitors. Submitted items should adhere to the guidelines below. Please be advised that all items submitted for posting are subject to editing and verification, and our acceptance of a submission does not obligate us to post it or to post it at any particular time (Concert Announcements are generally posted within 48 hours of submission, News Items within one week, but these times are approximate and are not guaranteed). If you wish to submit photographs or a large amount of text, please send an email to news@brasscrest.com to arrange transfer of the information.

  • In general, the item should have some connection to Salvation Army music or brass bands. Although The Brass Crest is focused on brass bands, information on any type of musical event can be submitted.
  • The item must not be purely commercial in nature. However, announcements of new recordings and publications are acceptable, as are concert announcements where an admission will be charged. We will be happy to link to order pages, etc., but we do not have any facility to sell your items or collect money for any reason.
  • The item must be reasonably current. In general, the date of the event must be between two months in the past and two months in the future. Concert Announcements are posted on the main page in the order that the events will occur, not in the order that we receive them, and we reserve the right to delay posting a future-dated item until the event date is within our guidelines. Concert Announcements submitted less than 72 hours before an event is scheduled will usually not be posted.

There is no limit on the number of submissions from any one person or group. Please feel free to submit any news or announcements that you have. If you are submitting a Concert Announcement, we encourage you to also submit a report following the event.

Explanation of Fields

Type of Item

This field indicates what type of information you are submitting. There are several choices:

  • Concert/Performance/Event Announcement – An item about an upcoming concert, performance or other event. Announcements submitted less than 72 hours before the scheduled event will uusually not be posted. These announcements are posted in the Concert Announcements box on the main page, in chronological order with the earliest item first (the time of submission is not considered for placement). For announcements, please include the date and time of the event. A contact name and email address is also recommended.
  • Concert/Performance/Event Report – An item about a concert, performance event that has already happened. Reports should generally be submitted no later than one month following the event. Items submitted more than two months after an event will usually not be posted.
  • Tour/Trip – An item about a band tour or trip. Tour items can be submitted before, during or after the trip. A contact name and email address is recommended for tour and trip reports.
  • Personnel Change/Appointment – An announcement or report of a change in personnel, usually submitted after the change.
  • Recording – A report that a recording has been released. All release announcements must include contact information. The Brass Crest cannot collect orders or money for any recording, but we will be happy to include a link to your order page.

Performer/Group

 Required  The name of the performer or group that is the primary subject of the item.

Title

If the event has a title or a name, enter it here. If a title is provided, we will make every effort to use it as the header of the item when posted.

Date of Event

Although it is not required, the date(s) covered by the event are useful, particularly for Concert Announcement items. You can also include date and time information in the text area of the item.

Location

Although it is not required, the location of the event is useful, particularly for Concert Announcement items. You can also include location information, including travel directions, in the text area of the item.

URL

If the performer or group has a web site, please enter the URL here. Please remember that a complete URL includes the “http://” at the beginning.

Contact Name

The name of an official contact for the performer, group or event. Although a contact name is not required, it is highly recommended that you supply one. Recording announcements should always include a contact name.

Contact Email

The email address of an official contact for the performer, group or event. Although a contact email address is not required, it is highly recommended that you supply one. Recording announcements should always include a contact email address.

Your Name

 Required  This field is for the name of the person submitting the item. This is a required field – unsigned submissions will not be accepted.

Your Email

 Required  This field is for the email address of the person submitting the item. This is required, and must be a valid address. Submissions without valid email addresses will not be accepted.

Permission to Link to Email

If you submit an item, you will be credited as the source on the posted page. If this box is checked, the credit will be formatted as a link to your email address as shown in the field above.
