LCFB at Barnet

The London Central Fellowship Band (Bandmaster David Daws) has a close association with Barnet Corps, not least because its band room facilities are there and the band rehearses at the Corps hall in Albert Road. The concert held on Saturday, 31 March 2012, proved to be rather “cosy” with a large audience and the band within the small confines of the hall.

The band offered musical fare to suit a wide range of choices. Take Over Bid, Breezin’ Down Broadway and Canadian Folk Song Suite were among the items featured.

In addition to items from the band’s regular soloists, there were some new names on the bill. These included Andy Thomas (trombone), who played Let the Beauty of Jesus (William Broughton). Also, James Adcock, recently elevated to principal euphonium of the Territorial Youth Band, delighted the audience with Commitment (Lloyd Scott, arr. Stephen Bulla). In contrast, another first-timer, Caroline Seredynski, chose the music of Franz Liszt to demonstrate her talents on the piano.

Keith Wilkinson’s arrangement of Blaenwern concluded a reflective interlude from the band’s newly appointed Executive Officer, Major Graham Mizon. His succinct comments left all pondering whether faith in Jesus helps to thrive, rather than merely survive.

Captain Julia Adcock (Barnet corps officer) expressed thanks to the band before they “played out” with Cole Porter’s Be a Clown.
