Williams on the Mend
Many members of the brass band community will be familiar with Lt.-Colonel Michael Williams, who is the bandmaster of the Upper Norwood Salvation Army Band.
Williams has been the bandmaster at Upper Norwood since 2004 and a member of the band since 1979. He is a product of the Bristol Easton Corps, and was, for ten years, a members of the International Staff Band. He also served as the Secretary of the ISB. During his time in the Staff Band, Williams participated in many recordings and undertook a number of international tours. One of his appointments as a Salvation Army officer was and Director of Salvationist Publishing & Supplies, which has responsibility for many of the Salvation Army music publications.
In July 2009, Williams suffered a serious stroke and since has undergone a long period of therapy and convalescence. It is with great joy that the Upper Norwood Band announces that after a year he has recovered sufficiently to resume conducting the band and take up some of his band leadership duties.
A photograph taken recently of Williams conducting the Upper Norwood Band can be seen on the band’s web site, where there is also an opportunity to send greetings by posting comments.
