Govan Citadel Band Hosts Army Music Day
On Saturday, 24 April 2010 the Govan Citadel Band hosted their first “Army Music Day”. A new venture for the band, three other Salvation Army bands from the immediate area, Clydebank, Bellshill and The Fellowship Band, were invited to join Govan Citadel Band at the Paisley Citadel Corps. Each band provided a program of music of one hour duration, each running consecutively. Items also included vocal and instrumental solos and congregational songs.
With so many bands contributing, a huge range of music was portrayed to the audience, who enjoyed the concert whilst seated at tables enjoying snacks and drinks, in a very informal setting. During the 4-hour concert the number in the audience never dropped below 140 and at several times there was standing room only.
As the day was to culminate in a concert by the International Staff Band (see report), several members of that band dropped in to listen to some of the presentations. Staff Bandmaster Dr. Stephen Cobb indicated that he was greatly impressed by the music presented, and was thrilled at the format in which the event took place.
