Sessions for Canadian Staff Band

The Canadian Staff Band will be “under the mics” on 7, 9 and 10 April 2010 to record their second album under the baton of Bandmaster John Lam. Sessions will take place at Brampton Corps and will once again be under the technical expertise of Ted Marshall.

Featured on the recording will be the title track, Corpus Christi. Written by Robert Redhead for the International Staff Band’s tour of Canada in 1994, this item was one of the highlights of the International Brass Spectacular concerts at Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall celebrating the Canadian Staff Band’s 25th anniversary.

Also planned for this recording are James Curnow’s Variations on Terra Beata and Shostakovich’s exhilarating Festive Overture (arr. William Gordon). New solos written for this recording will be presented by Major Kevin Metcalf (cornet), Craig Lewis (trombone) and Steve Pavey (euphonium). Also featured will be a new meditation by Major Ken Smith entitled In Quiet Confidence, based on the hymn tune “Rutherford” and associated with the words “In heavenly love abiding ...”

Throw in Lowell Anniversary (Stephen Bulla) and Hallelujah! (James Curnow), along with some other surprises, and the album promises to have something to suit every taste.

Corpus Christi is scheduled for release in June.
