Christchurch Priory Christmas Concert

On 3 December 2009, the Boscombe Band of the Salvation Army (Bandmaster Dr. Howard J. Evans) presented a Christmas concert at Christchurch Priory.

The concert commenced with The Spirit of Christmas (Peter Graham), followed by a congregational carol, Hark the Glad Sound. The band then presented Morley Calvert’s arrangement Two Canadian Carols, featuring “Jesous Ahatonhia” and “Il Est Né”. The congregation again joined in, singing O Come, O Come Immanuel. Two more items from the band were next, The Quiet Heart (June Collin, arr. John Meredith) and For Unto Us a Child Is Born (Handel, arr. William Gordon). The first half of the program concluded with a timbrel presentation set to the Tocatta in D minor (Johann Sebastian Bach, arr. Ray Farr).

In the second half, the band began with Angel Tidings (Richard Phillips) and O Magnum Mysterium (Morten Lauridsen, arr. Leonard Ballantine), followed by a Christmas Thought from Reverend Canon Hugh Williams. The concert continued with another congregational carol, In the Bleak Mid-Winter (arr. Howard J. Evans). The last two items from the band were A Christmas Canon (William Gordon) and Excerpts from “The Little Russian” (Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, arr. William Gordon). The concert concluded with O Come, All Ye Faithful as the final congregational carol.
