New Additions at Norwich Citadel

The Norwich Citadel Band (Bandmaster Richard Woodrow) recently announced several additions to their roster.

Graeme Hall has joined the band on Eb tuba. Graeme, with his wife, Lisa, and two young children originally came from Bedlington in Northumberland some ten years ago. Graeme, who is an IT manager, has since worked in Peterborough and now Norwich.

Another addition in the bass section is Brandon Barron, on Bb tuba. Barron is a returning member of the band and his son Marcus is also in the section, on Eb tuba.

In December of 2008, the band welcomed Howard Russell, who transferred from Felixstowe. Although he has been a cornet player for all his life, Howard has moved to principal first baritone to bolster that section, a move that is greatly appreciated by his new band.

Matthew Peek with his wire, Barbara, and family have moved from Dereham to Norwich and Matthew has joined the band on solo cornet. A well-known personality around Norfolk, Matthew served as bandmaster at Dereham and for a time was the bandmaster of the East Anglia Youth Band. The Youth Band conducted a visit to Majorca during his tenure.

In addition to the playing members mentioned above, the band has also added two non-playing assistant librarians to assist in the management of the band’s large and ever-growing music library. Derek Mapes, a long-time member of the band and now a Band Reservist, and Stuart Frost, son-in-law of Herbert Edwards (former timpanist and deputy bandmaster) have taken on this task. Their assistance allows the band librarian, Kelvin Mann, to concentrate on playing during the Tuesday evening rehearsals.
