5th Annual Concert in Hythe

The fifth Annual Concert featuring the Hythe Band of the Salvation Army and the Hythe Town Concert Band was held on 3 March 2007, to a standing room only audience.

In the first half of the program, the Hythe Band of the Salvation Army, under the direction of Bandmaster Richard Carroll, gave a sparkling performance which included Southern New England, Songs of Testimony, and a piece written by Songster Leader Wes Carroll for the Hythe Band's trip to Estonia last autumn, entitled Just a piece of music?.

Following an excellent French horn solo by Bandsman David Simms of Southwark Citadel, the Hythe Band led the audience in a “Last Night of the Proms” item that featured cornet soloists Wendy Margott and Terry Jackson, euphonium soloist Wes Carroll and lots of flag waving!. The first half closed with a rousing rendition of the Finale of The Carnival of the Animals.

Last year's concert included the inaugural performance of the Shepway Gospel Choir, who made a return appearance this year, once again “stealing the show” with an energetic and polished performance.

Following the interval, the Hythe Town Concert Band performed music from blockbuster films and West End/Broadway shows. This set also included another masterly performance from David Simms. The curtain came down with both bands uniting for Eric Ball's march Star Lake.

The Gospel Choir included the song Give God the Glory and in asking God to bless the audience the Salvationists present did just that – hallelujah!
