Carols in Swansea
The Swansea Citadel Band, Songsters, Singing Company and Young People's Band Learners presented a Civic Carol Concert. Special guests for the evening were the Morriston Rugby Club male voice choir. Chief Secretary Lt.-Colonel William Cochrane served as the compére for the event. Over 2,000 persons attended over two performances, and £2,500 was raised for the Lord Mayor's Charity.
The concert began with the Junior Timbrels, who presented a drill to The Carollers (Richard Holz). Following a congregational song, “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing”, Major Sandra Moran offered an invocation. The Learners were up next, presenting Classics in Brass (William Himes) with the assistance of the Senior Band. This was met with tremendous applause from the large congregation.
The Singing Company presented three items: Away in a Manger, One More to Count and Let's Give a Gift. Items from the Citadel Band included Immanuel (Steven Ponsford) and Joy to the World (Paul Drury) and the Songsters sang Angels Carol (John Rutter) and Jesus Will Reign (Dennis Jernigan).
The Male Voice Choir from Morriston Rugby Club presented several items, including O Holy Night, Torches and Kumbaya. Lt.-Colonel Cochrane gave the Christmas message, with the children from Swansea Citadel portraying the nativity scene.
