Gloucester Music Sections at City Centre Cross

On a warm, sunny Saturday (23 September 2006), the Gloucester Salvation Army Band and Songsters participated in the Gloucester City Churches Harvest Celebrations. The event, held in the area of the City Centre Cross, was opened by Councillor Sue Blakely, Mayor of Gloucester. Shoppers traversing the area were entertained by the band with a program of varied items, including marches (such as Danforth Citadel and God's Children), well-known hymn tune arrangements (such as Amazing Grace and As the Deer), and classical items (such as the Hornpipe from Handel's Water Music).

Following the corps band, other entertainers and choirs from the various participating churches took theur turn. One of the most entertaining was comic Tom Elliott, who presented a series of card tricks and capped his performance with an escape from a straightjacket (in under 30 seconds).

The Gloucester Songsters interspersed Bible readings and prayer with their vocal presentations, effectively presenting the message to those gathered there. Items such as O Happy Day, Total Praise, and Praise to the Lord were warmly received by the audience.
