Band Weekend in Portsmouth

Portsmouth Citadel Band (Bandmaster David Mallett) held its Band Weekend in June, featuring virtuoso trombonist Nick Hudson on Saturday evening.

Hudson offered four solo items on Saturday, including The Eternal Quest (Ray Steadman-Allen), Consecration (Don Morrison), My Christ Is All (William Himes), and Concert Piece (Félix-Alexandre Guilmant). The band concluded the evening with one of Eric Ball's well-known classics, The Kingdom Triumphant.

On Sunday morning, three new local officers were commissioned for the band: Paul French – Band Sergeant, William Doherty – Band Librarian, and Dot Kennett – Band Treasurer.

The weekend concluded with a festival on Sunday afternoon. Several soloists from the band were featured, including Matt Woods, cornet, who played This Is My Story. Others were Marc Henry and John Hanchett, who played the euphonium duet Timepiece, Christ Is All with Alex Manning on flügelhorn, and vocalist Ian French, who sang They Could Not.
