Festival Concert for Leighton Buzzard's 120th Anniversary
The Derby Central Band of the Salvation Army (Bandmaster Alan Losh) traveled to Leighton Buzzard on 4 March 2006, to perform a festival concert in commemoration of 120 years of Salvation Army work in Leighton Buzzard. The hall was filled, to the extent that additional chairs were required, with several members of the International Staff Band in attendance.
In addition to the band's items, the event featured the Leighton Buzzard Songsters, who sang God and God Alone. Enhancing the experience for the audience was a multimedia presentation prepared by James Milner. Martyn Page and James Hunter also participated with the spoken word.
The band's program included three solo items: the cornet solo Someone Cares, played by David Purkiss; This Is My Story, also a cornet solo, played by Jonathon Smith; and Andy Ward's rendition of the vocal solo We Are the Reason.
In addition to the solo items, the band also played a set of widely varied items, including the marches Salvation Song (William Gordon), The Fount (Arthur Gullidge) and Jubilee (Paul Drury); and song arrangements Be Still (arr. Keith Wilkinson), Such Love (Graham Kendrick, arr. Paul Drury), All to Jesus (Eilav Herikstad) and The Mission (Ennio Marricone, arr. Frank Bernaerts).
Feature items during the concert were also varied, including Overture to “The Magic Flute” (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, arr. Michael Kenyon), Glorifico Aeternum (Dean Jones), Island Dreams (Martyn Scott Thomas), Deep River (William Broughton), Three Kings Swing (William Himes) and Las Lluvias Grandes (Peter Graham).
