New Executive Officer in New York
Major Richard Munn, Secretary for Program at the USA Eastern Territorial Headquarters of The Salvation Army, has been tapped as the new Executive Officer of the New York Staff Band (Bandmaster Ronald Waiksnoris).
Major Munn is fourth-generation Salvationist. Born in London, England, he spent much of his early years in the Congo, where his parents were in Salvation Army mission service as teachers. He graduated from St. Luke's College, Exeter, with a bachelor's degree in education. During his student years, he participated in an exchange program which led to working summers at the Camp Wonderland, the Salvation Army's summer camp in the Massachusetts Division. During this time he met his wife, Janet; they were married in 1980.
After receiving a master's degree in divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary, Munn and his wife entered the Eastern Territory's School for Officer Training, being commissioned as Salvation Army officers in 1987. The Munns served in a corps appointment in Camden, New Jersey, and in the youth department at the Massachusetts divisional headquarters. This was followed by a six-year appointment as corps officers in Manchester, Connecticut and another six-year appointment as the divisional leaders in the Northern New England Division. Their current appointments are at the USA Eastern Territorial Headquarters, as Secretary for Program and Ambassador for Prayer and Spiritual Formation, respectively.
In addition to his various ministries, Major Munn has been a writer for Salvation Army publications such as Good News, The War Cry, and The Officer. He has also continued his education, being awarded a Doctor of Ministry degreee from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 2004.
