Fellowship Band Visits Wellingborough

Major George Whittingham and the South London Fellowship Band journeyed to Wellingborough for a special weekend on 23 – 24 April 2005. The weekend's activities for the band included a Saturday evening festival, participation in the Sunday morning Holiness Meeting, and a Sunday afternoon festival. In addition to the band, the weekend featured Major Cecil John Waters, who provided spiritual leadership throughout.

Highlights of the Saturday evening festival included Sound Out the Proclamation (Eric Ball), Just As I Am (Wilfred Heaton) and None Other Name. Solo items were contributed by trombone soloist John Spicer, who played Count Your Blessings; John Rodgers, EEb tuba, who played Standing on the Promises; My Unchanging Friend presented by euphonium soloist Bram Chestney; and the cornet duet Quicksilver, featuring Douglas Minter and Malcolm Shelton.

On Sunday afternoon, the band participated in a combined festival and Salvation Meeting, opening with Songs of the Valiant and also offering Jubilation, For Our Transgressions, My Comfort and Strength and the cornet feature Joyous Proclamation. The commanding officer of the Wellingborough Corps, Major Clive Bishop, reported that the band's performance was "of a very high standard" and also praised the singing of the Male Chorus.
