Parc & Dare Sign Salvationist Cornet Virtuoso

Noted Salvationist cornet soloist Carl Saunders has signed with the Parc & Dare Band as co-principal cornet, joining current principal Robert Samuel. Saunders' first engagement with the band was at the Welsh Regional Championships on 12 March, where the band became only the second band in history to achieve a second consecutive win as Champion First Section Band of Wales. Held at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, the Welsh Regionals also saw Saunders help Parc & Dare to the award of the Welsh Region Challenge Cup. Parc & Dare's musical director, Craig Roberts, was the initial recipient of a new award, the Melville James Trophy. With their performance of the test-piece, Comedy Overture (John Ireland), the band earned a spot in the National Championship finals to be held in Harrogate on 25 September 2005.

Carl Saunders is a long-time member of the Cardiff Canton Corps, where he serves as the principal cornet of the band, as Deputy Bandmaster, and as the Junior Band leader. He has also performed as a soloist with many of the top Salvation Army bands, including the Enfield Citadel and Hendon bands, as well as the Household Troops Band. In 2004, he undertook a solo tour of the Australia South territory, sponsored by the Sydney Congress Hall Band. In preparation for the tour, Saunders released a solo recording, Going Solo (review), backed by the Household Troops Band.
