Benefit Concert in Catford by South London Fellowship Band
The South London Fellowship Band (directed by Major George Whittingham) performed at the St. Laurence Church in Catford on 18 February 2005. The concert was a benefit for the Catford Corps of the Salvation Army, which is raising funds for a renovation project. The band was challenged by the unusual venue, which featured a setting in the round, with audience members on all sides.
The band performed two items new to its repertoire, Songs of the Valiant (Eric Ball) and Peter Graham's cornet duet Quicksilver, ably performed by Douglas Minter and Malcolm Shelton. The low brass was also represented, Bram Chestney and John Hockley performing the euphonium duet Serenata (arr. James Gilbert). The band also performed several of their favorite items, including Melodies of Dvorak and Seventy-Six Trombones. The concert concluded with Erik Leidzén's devotional selection None Other Name.
