Volunteer Cadets Assisted by South London Fellowship Band

For the first time, the South London Fellowship Band, under the direction of Major George Whittingham, participated in a special community event when they participated in the Presentation Parade of the Metropolitan Police Volunteer Cadet Corps on 14 April 2004. The event was held at the Metropolitan Police Sports and Social Club in West Wickham.

The band played To Regions Fair as the cadets entered the parade ground, and Zdenek Fibich's Poem during the presentation of colors and inspection. A part of the event was a tribute to law enforcement officers who had died while on duty, following which the band played Sunset and The Last Post. The ceremonies ended with a march past as the band played Emblem of the Army.

Created in 1987 as a part of an emphasis on community outreach by the Metropolitan Police, the Volunteer Cadet Corps aims to teach citizenship and develop personal skills in young people. Cadets assist the police in non-confrontational situations and minor events. The cadets also hope to foster interest in law enforcement careers.
