Band and Choir Join for Benefit in Milton Keynes
The Birmingham Citadel Band (Bandmaster David Nicholson) joined with the Chelmsford Songsters (Songster Leader Joanne Schultz) on 20 March 2004 for a benefit event sponsored by the Rotary Club of Milton Keynes. The concert benefited the Sparrow Village of Hope for Orphaned Children in Africa and the Rotary Foundation Charities.
The concert was jointly conducted by both groups, with the Birmingham Citadel Band beginning the program with Praise Party. The Chelmsford Songsters provided another bright number, Shine On Us. Other items before the intermission included Love Changes Everything and the cornet solo Song of Exultation from the band and a vocal duet setting of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Pie Jesu. The highlight of the first half of the concert was a Biblical presentation, Jesus Victorious, presented by the songsters.
Following the intermission, the band began with Let There Be Praise after which the songsters sang Count Your Blessings as they returned to their place in the hall. The Birmingham Citadel Timbrels presented a drill to Goldcrest, accompanied by the band. Other items in the second half of the program included Christ Calls, The Last Amen, When the Saints, The King of Love, and Jubilee. Solo items in the second half included the vocal solo Somebody's Prayin' and the horn solo Green Hill.
In addition to the excellent music and worship aspects of the evening, over £1,000 was raised for the charities.
