Leach Returns as Executive Officer

Lt.-Colonel Merv Leach (ret) has been appointed Executive Officer of the Canadian Staff Band (Bandmaster Kevin Hayward), effective on 1 March 2004. This is Leach's second term as the Executive Officer of the Staff Band, having previously served in that capacity from June 1992 to August 1994. It is also the third time that a retired officer has filled the executive role, the others being Colonel Arthur Moulton, who served from 1971-1974, and Lt.-Colonel Ernest Parr, who served from 1974-1975.

Lt.-Colonel Leach succeeds Major Kevin Metcalf, who was the first Executive Officer to play with the band, sitting on the solo cornet bench. Major Metcalf was appointed to the staff of the training college in Sydney, Australia (Australia East Territory) on 1 February, after serving as the Staff Band's Executive Officer for only five months.
