Zimbabwe Missionaries Helped by Reading Central
The Reading Central Band, the Central London Fellowship Band, and Australian piano virtuoso Janelle Ivors joined together on February 28, 2004, for a concert in support of Salvationist missionaries in Zimbabwe. The funds raised, about £2000, will assist Captains Tim and Samantha Johnson, who are currently serving as commanding officers of the Harare City Corps. Tim Johnson is a former member of the Reading Central Band.
The Central London Fellowship Band contributions included Strike Up the Band, The Shepherds Song, and On the King's Highway. Flugel soloist Jim Rogers played Londonderry Air. Items from the Reading Central Band (Bandmaster Paul Mortlock) were taken from their recent recording, including Godspell and The Challenge (Mark Dallas, cornet). The band items were enhanced by classical selections by Schubert and Liszt, played by guest piano soloist Janelle Ivors.
