Cardiff Visits Easton, Joins In

The Cardiff Canton Band (Bandmaster Steve Martin) traveled to Easton on February 7, 2004, to participate in a concert with Bandmaster Nathan Jenkins and the Bristol Easton Band. The program consisted of independent playing by both groups in the first half, and the bands joining as a united ensemble in the second half.

The Cardiff Canton Band opened with Dudley Bright's march Assignment, followed by the tone poem The Kingdom Triumphant (Eric Ball). Their noted cornet soloist, Carl Saunders, presented Norman Bearcroft's Song of Exultation. Bristol Easton's contributions to the first half of the evening featured works composed by Dr. Peter Graham, including Summon the Dragon, Gaelforce and The Last Amen. Their featured soloist was Lyndon Fletcher on euphonium, who performed The Holy Well and Glorious Ventures.

The bands joined together to present united items in the second half of the concert. The spiritual nature of Salvation Army music-making was shown in sensitive performances of William Himes' All That I Am and the song Lord, You Know That We Love You (Howard Davies). The concert was concluded with the united performance of Treasures from Tchaikovsky, a collection of transcriptions from the great composer's works.
