Anglia Band Visits Strood

The Anglia Divisional Golden Oldies Band (Bandmaster Bram Scott) travelled to the Strood Methodist Church on November 15, 2003, for a concert. The band was joined by two extra musicians, Philip Skuse (cornet) and Philip Green (Eb bass).

The concert began with a congregational song followed by an opening prayer from bandsman Harold Waspe. The first items on the program were composed by Kenneth Ketteringham, Spirit of Anglia and Variations on "Stainer". This was followed by a series of solo items: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Brian Cooper, piano; Alleluja, Dennis Versey, flügelhorn; Jesus, I Come to Thee, Neale Whittell, baritone; and Love's Descent, Bram Skuse, cornet.

The band also demonstrated its versatility by singing Rock of Ages. Variety for the program was provided by Strood Corps Sergeant-Major Alf Miskin, who presented two monologues. CSM Miskin is a former member of the band. The Scripture lesson was provided by Band Sergeant Arthur Wills, followed by the devotional band selection The Penitent.

The concert concluded with another work by Kenneth Ketteringham, Memories, followed by the classic march The Red Shield.
