Diss Hears Golden Oldies

The Anglia Divisional Golden Oldies Band (Bandmaster Bram Scott) travelled to the Diss Corps on Saturday evening, 20 September 2003, to present a concert. The concert commenced with an old classic march, "The Red Shield" (H. Goffin). Following words of welcome from the commanding officer at Diss, the band performed one of Eric Ball's masterpieces, "The Triumph of Peace". The first half of the program included several solo items: Bram Skuse (cornet), playing "Swedish Hymn"; Neall Whittell (baritone), "Jesus, I Come to Thee"; Geoff Tricker (euphonium), "The Conqueror"; and Brian Cooper (piano), "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring". The first half concluded with "Stainer Variations" (Kenneth Ketteringham).

Following an intermission, the band continued two more Eric Ball works, the "Rhapsody on Negro Spirituals" and "The Old Wells". Other items in the second half included "Divine Communion" (Gullidge) and a transcription of Elgar's "Nimrod". The concert concluded with another classic march, "Victors Acclaimed" (Bramwell Coles).
