Personnel Changes for Canadian Staff Band

The Canadian Staff Band (Bandmaster Kevin Hayward) began its 35th season of service in September. New personnel for the season include a new executive officer, Major Kevin Metcalf. Having been in the past a valued member of the Staff Band's cornet section, Major Metcalf becomes the first executive officer to also play in the band as he joins the solo cornet bench. Another member returning after an absence is Bandmaster Ken Bailey (Listowel), on second baritone.

This year also marks the debut of the first father-daughter combination in the history of the band, as Sarah Ewing (Peterborough Temple) joins the back row of the cornet section. She is also only the second woman to play in the Canadian Staff Band.

The new members help offset the loss of three long-time members, Geoff Norton, Dave Moulton, and Bob Young. Young was the last original member of the reconstituted staff band of the 1960s and had 34 years of service with the group.

In addition to the new members for this season, Mississauga Temple bandmaster James McArthur is temporarily filling a euphonium position until a permanent appointee is named.
