NZ National Youth Band Visit Upper Hutt
The New Zealand National Youth Band (NYB), under the direction of Territorial Music Director Stephen Stein, journeyed to the Upper Hutt Corps on Friday, August 1, 2003, for a weekend of ministry. The weekend began on Friday afternoon with a small contingent from the band performing at William Booth Educare, which is a chid development center attached to the Booth College of Mission. The full band held a rehearsal on Friday evening.
Midday on Saturday, the band at Logan Plaza, a major shopping area in the city. With more than two hundred persons hearing the concert, corps members from Upper Hutt circulated through the crowd, promoting the concert to be held that evening. The evening concert filled the Corps hall, with many being attracted to the event by the midday performance at the plaza.
Following participation in the Sunday morning services at the Upper Hutt Corps, the band separated into two units for afternoon activities. One group worked a visitation ministry, going to the homes of housebound Corps members. The other group went to the Norman Kirk Centre for the Elderly.
