Flint Citadel Announces 70th Annual Thanksgiving Concert

Flint Citadel Band 70 logo The Flint Citadel Band has announced that its 70th Annual Thanksgiving Concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2002. Trumpet soloist Scott W. Thornburg, professor of trumpet at Western Michigan University. The concert will be held in the James H. Whiting Auditorium, located in the Flint Cultural Center.

A graduate of the University of Miami and the Julliard School, Scott W. Thornburg has been Professor of Trumpet at Western Michigan University since 1989. He is also a member of the Western Brass Quintet and the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Previously, he played in several orchestras in the New York City area, including the Hartford Symphony and the New York City Symphony. He is also a member of the New York Trumpet Ensemble and has appeared with the Canadian Brass and the American Brass Quintet.

Interior of the Whiting Auditorium, Flint, Michigan The venue for this event, the James H. Whiting Auditorium, is the Flint civic auditorium, seating over 2,000 persons for concert events. It opened in 1967, and recently underwent an extensive renovation, costing 6.8 million dollars. The Whiting Auditorium is located on the campus of the Flint Cultural Center. Major groups and events housed at the auditorium include the Flint Symphony Orchestra and the Cultural Center's Showcase Series. The auditorium is named for James Hubert Whiting (1842 - 1919), an early pioneer of the automotive industry in Michigan.
