Andrew R. Mackereth

Born in 1965 to Salvation Army officer-parents, Andrew Mackereth led a well-traveled youth, including four years in Zambia. In 1982, he began advanced musical training at the Newcastle College of Arts and Technology, participating in the Certificate in Brass Band Studies course. Further musical education ensued at the Birmingham School of Music (now the Birmingham Conservatoire), where he studied trombone, percussion, composition and conducting. He was awarded the Bernhard Brown Memorial Composition Prize during his fourth year.

Upon completing his education, Mackereth turned to the education of others, beginning a career as a teacher. He is currently the Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator for the Sandwell Local Education Authority. In addition to having several compositions published in the Salvation Army brass band journals, Mackereth is a featured composer for Blow and Believe Publications.
