The Errata Project

The purpose of the Brass Crest’s Errata Project is to build a searchable database of errata for Salvation Army band music. The editors hope that this will be a useful resource for bandmasters and players as they rehearse and prepare this music. While the quality of music published by the various Salvation Army publishers is very high, the sheer volume of items issued throughout the years has allowed a number of errors to creep into the publications.

Entries in the Errata Project database will be submitted by visitors or taken from published errata. Only errors in published works are eligible for inclusion. Submitted items may be subject to confirmation by the editors before they are made publicly available on the Errata Project database.

The major source for entries in the Errata Project database is contributions from visitors to The Brass Crest. As with any project using submissions from Web visitors, there are a few rules to follow:

1. Persons submitting errata for consideration should not include non-pertinent comments or “flames” directed toward composers, editors or publishers. Such inclusions are not considered by the editors, will not be promulgated onto the database, and may cause the editors to refuse future submissions from the sender. Please note that The Brass Crest is an independent site and is not affiliated with any music publisher.
2. Each submission must include a VALID email address. This address will be used for confirmation of the submission and for correspondence in order to confirm details of the submission if necessary. These email addresses will not be stored in any database nor distributed to anyone. Submissions without valid email addresses will not be considered for inclusion in the database.
3. Errata must be for the published, generally available version of the work, not for a manuscript or limited-distribution edition.
4. Each report must contain, at a minimum, the following:
   1. The title and composer of the work, and/or the series and number of the work (preferably, all of this information).
   2. The part(s) in which the error occurs.
   3. The location of the error. Be very specific – use bar numbers if available, otherwise use rehearsal letter/number references. If the part is divisi, specify the voice within the divisi. The editors will be unable to use the report if they cannot identify the location of the error.
   4. A brief description of the error.
   5. A VALID email address for confirmation that we have received the submission.
