Bandmaster Robert Taylor

Bandmaster Robert Taylor is a fourth-generation Salvationist. His grandmother was an officer and his father was the Corps Sergeant-Major at Burlington Citadel for over 20 years. He is married with two children. He has been a member of the band as long as he can remember, first in the junior sections and then moving up to the Senior Band. In 1986 he was commissioned as Band Secretary and in 1990 he and his wife Wendy took on the leadership roles in the Youth Band. In 1995, Robert filled the vacant Senior Bandmaster position and the year 2000 has brought him back into the YP Band as a Leader/Helper. Burlington Citadel Band may not be the biggest, or the best Salvation Army band, but its members have a united goal. To deliver a musical message - the message of God's love.

Band Reunion 2000

The year 2000 was exciting for the Burlington Citadel Band as they took on the challenge of a Band Reunion Weekend. Former members of the band were invited back for the event. David Daws, cornet soloist of the International Staff Band, was the guest soloist and Lt.-Col. Gilbert St. Onge, Divisional Commander of the Ontario North Division, was the guest speaker.

The weekend began with a Reunion practice, fellowship time and dinner, then a Saturday night concert. On Sunday, the banding theme continued with solos from David and special music by the band in the morning service. A musical service was conducted on Sunday afternoon, featuring the Present and the Future, including the present Senior Band, the Youth Band, and even a piece from the Beginners Band.

David Daws

David Daws was born in Middlesex, England. He began to play the cornet at the age of 3. At 7, he joined the Wealdstone Young People's Band under the direction of their influential leader, John Yates (now a retired Bandmaster of the Burlington Citadel Band). David fulfilled his boyhood ambition to join the International Staff Band in 1981, becoming principal cornet in September of 1993. In 1988, he joined the Enfield Citadel Band and now is a soldier at the Enfield Citadel Corps, together with his wife, Sarah, and two young daughters. He has toured internationally as a soloist, visiting Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, the United States, and Australia.

Lieutenant-Colonel Gilbert St. Onge

Gilbert St. Onge answered God's call in 1962 and entered the Salvation Army training college. His first appointment was to the West St. John Corps in New Brunswick in 1964. In July, 1965, he married Lieutenant Marilyn Hollingworth . They were promoted to Captain in 1966 and in 1977 arrived at the Burlington Citadel Corps. They worked faithfully in all aspects of the Corps and made many lasting friendships. Gilbert was a member of the Burlington Citadel Band, and, in October, 1978, the Captains St. Onge travelled to Picton, Ontario with the band. In 1980 they were appointed to Montreal as Divisional Youth Sectretary and, after several appointments in the Montreal and Bermuda areas, they were appointed Divisional Commander of Quebec in 1994. They presently serve as Divisional Commander of the Ontario North Division. They have two grown daughters and are the proud parents of three grandchildren.
